The Cumming City Council will hold a public hearing 5 p.m. Tuesday at Cumming City Hall, 500 Main St. on the city’s proposed 2016 operating budget.

The roughly $13,5 million operating budget is up from $13.1 million last year. It includes a 4 percent cost of living raise for city employees, including police and fire personnel. City clerk Jeff Honea said the it also budgets for several new positions in the city utilities department and an 8 percent increase in health insurance premiums which is being absorbed by the city.

Water and sewer budget expenditures are also up from just short of $15 million to $17.7 million. Honea said that’s partly due to capital improvements to the water system, including upgrades /replacements on water and sewer lines.
