Sugarloaf Parkway extends to Dacula

The final section of the Sugarloaf Parkway extension opened to traffic on Dec. 11, extending Sugarloaf Parkway over SR 316 in Dacula and includes the bridge overpass, entrance and exit ramps. The project enhances east-west connectivity across Gwinnett and completes the six-mile extension from SR 20 south of Lawrenceville to SR 316 in the Dacula area.

The 2009 SPLOST funds paid the $15 million project to construct the ramps and section of Sugarloaf Parkway from Campbell Road to the south side of SR 316 that opened this summer. The Georgia DOT provided $2.5 million for this recent construction.

Permits in place for North Decatur Walmart

The owner of an aging shopping plaza near Decatur has secured all of the necessary permits to build a Walmart supercenter.

Selig Enterprises needed demolition, land disturbance and building permits to tear down part of Suburban Plaza and anchor it with the retail giant.

A group of residents in the North Decatur neighborhoods banded together, trying to keep Walmart out.

However, work is set to begin on the project in early 2013. April Hunt
