Fulton announces nine new principals
The Fulton County Board of Education has approved the appointment of nine principals, including three from out of state, it was announced Monday. They are: Lori Bolds, McNair Middle; Jennifer Couch, Hapeville Elementary; Debra Doss, Creek View Elementary; Richard Fowler, Woodland Middle; Tiffany Hutchens, Medlock Bridge Elementary; Rako Morrissey, New Prospect Elementary; Harvey Oaxaca, Lake Forest Elementary; Norman Sauce, Barnwell Elementary; and Trici Smith, Feldwood Elementary.

Kennesaw State forms art school
Kennesaw State University renamed the department of visual arts to be the School of Art and Design, officials announced Monday. The move reflects student interest in the area as the number of art majors has increased by more than 70 percent. Cancer Society Swordsman's Ball set
The American Cancer Society's 39th annual Swordsman's Ball is scheduled for Aug. 11 at the Cobb Galleria Center. The black-tie optional gala, themed "Warriors of the Fight" this year, will focus on people who surround cancer patients during their cancer battles. The event will feature a silent auction, musical performance by Atlanta variety band, Prime, and a video with cancer survivors and their "warriors" with them in the fight.
Gala proceeds benefit The American Cancer Society and its fight against cancer.

Summer movies on tap at DeKalb libraries
Several DeKalb County libraries will screen recent movies this summer as part of ongoing programming. The Friday Movies event runs from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Friday in July at the Toco Hills branch, McConnell Drive near Decatur. The film this week is "Super 8," and the movies "Dolphin Tale," "Jane Eyre," and "Mission Impossible -- Ghost Protocol" will be shown in coming weeks. The Doraville branch will screen its movie, "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," at 2 p.m. Saturday at the branch on Central Avenue. April Hunt

Tail-wagging good time at the library
Gwinnett Public Libraries is offering children ages 5 to 10 the chance to read to a friendly dog. Doggie Tales, offered through Atlanta TheraPaws, is providing children the chance to practice their reading skills with dogs trained and registered members of Therapy Dogs International, Inc. Henry to hold hearing on airport
The Henry County Board of Commissioners hosts a public information open house 4 -7 p.m. July 12 at Hampton Elementary School to discuss the proposed expansion plans for the Atlanta South Regional Airport, formerly known at Tara Field. The public is invited to view the proposed project concept and have their questions answered by county representatives.
