Sandy Springs plans street paving

Sandy Springs plans to pave about two dozen streets with a new paving recycling program that uses existing roadway with new asphalt.

Segments of Carriage Drive, Drummen Court, Aerie Court, Fauna Court, Franklin Road, Helmsley Drive, Lackland Court, Marilyn Place, Morganshire Place, Mountain Brook Lane, Tanglewood Court, Tanglewood Trail, Valemont Drive, View Hill Court, Vinington Court, Wicksford Glen and Woodall Way are in the plan.

Cherokee aquatic center plans progress

Cherokee County is down to five contractors for an aquatics center on Sixes Road, said County Commissioner Jason Nelms.

The center will be the first capable of hosting large swim meets and will have indoor and outdoor pools. The county is also asking for a proposed business and revenue plan to see how much operating the center will cost. That could affect decisions about when to build it. Christopher Quinn

Norcross to expand opportunity zone

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs recently approved Norcross’ application to expand the opportunity zone to include Northbelt Business Park, located at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Best Friend Road.

Businesses within the zone qualify for state tax credits up to $3,500 for each new job. The incentive can be used annually up to five years and is open to businesses that create and maintain at least two full-time jobs.

Commissioners honor NCAA champs

Clayton County Board of Commissioners presented the Clayton State University Lady Lakers with a proclamation for their NCAA basketball championship. The team made Clayton State and Georgia history when they captured the university’s first national title in any sport and Georgia’s first national basketball championship for a women’s team during the NCAA Division II tournament on March 25. tammy joyner

Marietta police to host open house

The Marietta Police Department hosts an Open House 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7 at their headquarters at 240 Lemon Street.

Citizens are encouraged to come tour the facility, see some specialized equipment, and interact with officers who will provide demonstrations and answer questions. Free hot dogs and drinks will be served.

McDonough complex sells for $28.8 million

A New England real estate firm that is assembling multifamily properties throughout the Southeast has paid $28.8 million for an apartment complex in McDonough. Panther Properties Investment LLC purchased the 300-unit, three-year-old Mandalay Villas Apartments from Davis Development, the original developer. Panther plans to make several upgrades to Mandalay and add a dog park, outdoor sports court and more fencing to make it a fully gated community. TAMMY JOYNER
