Gwinnett College is military-friendly
Georgia Gwinnett College has been named a 2014 Military Friendly School, one of the top 20 schools for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, by Victory Media.
GGC was also selected as a top military-friendly school by "Military Advanced Education," the journal of higher learning for today's service member, and KMI Media Group, a publisher of defense-related publications and websites. Karen Huppertz for the AJC
Norcross wants sign rules to be observed
The Norcross Code Enforcement Department is cautioning political candidates, real estate agents, businesses and event organizers not to place signs on right of ways.
In accordance with state and city ordinances, signs of any kind found on rights of way will be removed by either Georgia DOT or Norcross code enforcement teams.
Unauthorized signs found in Norcross will be removed from rights of way and if not immediately claimed, will be disposed of.

Cherokee schools plan leader bus tour Oct. 29
The Cherokee County School District plans its first-ever bus tour for business and community leaders Oct. 29.

‘Diaper day’ donations will be sought today
Cobb will hold its fifth-annual “diaper day” to collect diapers for low-income families through October.
A collection will take place at 5 p.m. today at Glover Park on the Marietta Square.
All donated diapers will be given to CAMP, the Center for Family Resources, MUST Ministries, Reconnecting Families and the YWCA of Northwest Georgia.

Family history research to be explored today
Family history research tips will be offered from 2 to 3:30 p.m. today at the Powder Springs Library, 4181 Atlanta St.
Carolyn Crawford, head of the Georgia Room, the genealogical and historical collection of the Cobb County Public Library System, will present basic instructions on how to conduct genealogy research and an overview of the library’s resources and databases.
The event is free, but registration is required.

McPherson historical listing gets update
As part of the Army’s closure of Fort McPherson, the existing National Register of Historic Places district for the Staff Row and Old Post Area of the historic base was updated and expanded to include all of the historic resources associated with the fort from 1887 through 1959.
