Sandy Springs police will be monitoring Roswell Road on Saturday evening and Sunday morning, cracking down on drunk drivers.

From 2016 to 2017, the number of DUI charges increased in Sandy Springs.

The city's police charged 97 drivers with the crime in 2016, and 155 last year, according to data in Sandy Springs' year-in-review publications, which comes from the police department's crime statistics.

On Saturday, the city will be cracking down on drivers on at least one road.

Sandy Springs police said it will be conducting road safety checks that evening on Roswell Road, looking for impaired drivers, uninsured vehicles and unlicensed drivers.

The first location will be Roswell Road near Abernathy Road from 10 to 11:30 p.m. The second location will be the 5100 block of Roswell Road from 1 to 2:30 a.m.

“We have noticed an increase in traffic fatalities and accidents with injury,” Sandy Springs police spokesman Sam Worsham said. “We are being proactive.”

About two weeks ago, on Saturday, March 10, Sandy Springs police made four DUI arrests, two of which were on Roswell Road.
