Decatur police said Monday a 23-year-old South Georgia man accused of shooting at his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend had surrendered.

The couple was leaving a hotel on Church Street shortly before 11 a.m. April 15 when they saw Rickeyon Jenkins of Baxley, according to a news release.

He had a gun and fired toward them, prompting them to flee in their car, police said. He allegedly pursued and continued to fire, hitting the car and also ramming it with his own vehicle, an early 2000s Mercury Grand Marquis.

They had lost him by the time they reached East College Avenue and called 911.

“Officers observed damage to the victim’s vehicle consistent with gunshots and also recovered physical evidence at the original scene on Church Street,” the news release said. “Neither of the victims were physically injured.”

Jenkins is charged with aggravated assault.
