Brookhaven and Chamblee police are looking for a woman who drove away from officers after being pulled over Thursday, almost striking them, officials said.

The woman was stopped in the parking lot of Northeast Plaza on Buford Highway for allegedly having a stolen license plate on her car, a black Mercedes C-Class 63, Brookhaven police said in a statement. A Chamblee officer had been following her before the Mercedes crossed into Brookhaven city limits.

A Brookhaven police sergeant joined to follow the car into the parking lot at about 10 a.m. Body-worn camera released by the police department shows the woman stopped her car next to a drive-thru Chase ATM.

The two officers approached her from both sides of the car. About a minute after the officers arrived, the video shows, she reversed and then accelerated forward, speeding away from police.

Police said the Brookhaven officer was almost pinned against the ATM before the woman drove away.

“The movements of her vehicle nearly pinned the Brookhaven Officer against the concrete surroundings of the ATM,” Brookhaven police said in a statement.

Officers from Brookhaven and Chamblee pursued the Mercedes south on I-85 before the driver got onto I-85 north. “Citing heavy traffic and the continuing risk to the public,” police said, they ended the pursuit.

Thursday night, several hours after police sent out the video, an officer on patrol found the Mercedes unoccupied, Brookhaven police spokesman Sgt. David Snively said. It was taken as evidence.

Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the driver.
