“You better come get your son before I kill him.”
That was the content of a text allegedly sent to a relative by Raphael Wright, 26, of Stone Mountain. Warrants allege that the threat of death was accompanied by real physical violence against the child, who is 8.
The warrants claim Wright, who is charged with aggravated assault and child cruelty, choked the boy, lifting his body by the neck “high off the ground into the air.” The suspect is also accused of body-slamming the child, punching him, kicking him and whipping his naked body with a belt.

The warrants don’t reveal an alleged motive for the attack, which is said to have happened at Wright’s home off Redan Road on May 11. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution isn’t publishing the relationship between the man and the child to preserve the child’s identity.
Wright wasn’t arrested until last Wednesday. He remained in jail Monday, booking records said.
Further information wasn’t released.
