Marietta police have arrested a man accused of breaking into cars in a neighborhood early Monday.
Terrance Lamar Foster is charged with one count each of obstruction and entering auto, Marietta police said. Officers were informed about the alleged break-ins when they were dispatched just after midnight Sept. 9 to a call of suspicious activity on Heyward Circle.
Officers arrived and began investigating when one of the cops found a man matching a description given by 911 caller. According to Marietta police, the officer confronted the man, later identified as Foster, and tried to detain him until backup arrived to take him into custody. Foster and the officer engaged in a struggle, and the suspect fled the scene, police say.
Before leaving the area, officers say Foster dropped a backpack containing loose change, cell phones, various personal items and a set of keys. Marietta police say officers were able to link some of the items in the bag to a resident who called 911 to report someone going through his vehicle.

Later in the morning, officers issued a be-on-the-lookout for the man and around 3:45 p.m., Marietta officer Amelia Hines located Foster and took him into custody. Foster, 21, was booked into the Cobb County Jail where he remains held with a $11,220 bond.
Police Chief Dan Flynn said anyone who tries to break the law in Marietta “should expect to face a unified collaboration of amazing residents, 911 call takers, dispatchers, police officers and detectives.”
“This is another shining example of community working together,” he said.
Marietta police say the investigation is active, and detectives are unsure if Foster allegedly broke into other cars. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call detective Brian Bollinger at (770) 794-5345.
