Police arrested a Norcross man Tuesday night accused of killing a 26-year-old Atlanta man in Brookhaven two weeks ago.

Brookhaven police asked for help Friday to find Edward Tavarez, whom investigators say shot Travis Ridley at Avana Uptown apartments off Clairmont Road on June 1.

The department previously said the shooting was tied to “drug activity.”

Brookhaven police said information detectives received led them to Stone Mountain to arrest 24-year-old Tavarez.

Maj. Brandon Gurley said the information that led to the arrest was not a citizen tip. When asked how investigators got the information, Gurley declined to comment, saying it was for the sake of the investigation.

Tavarez nor Ridley lived at the apartment where the shooting happened, police have said.

At the time, investigators said Tavarez may have fired after Ridley pulled a gun. Detectives did find a firearm at the scene they believe belonged to Ridley.

Detectives “worked around the clock since the murder” to find Tavarez, according to the agency.

Tavarez has been charged with murder and armed robbery.

Detectives continue to investigate, so anyone with information was asked to contact the Brookhaven police or submit a tip, which can be anonymous, through Crime Stoppers Atlanta online or by phone at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
