The McDonough City Council approved two construction contracts totaling just over $1 million at its Jan. 16 regular meeting. A $511,941 agreement with DG Dockery Group is for selective demolition and construction of improvements at the Polk Building on the northeast corner of the square, and a $562,000 contract with C&C Lovejoy LLC is for additions and improvements to Avalon Park.

Both projects are to be funded by the city’s portion of the county’s special-purpose local option sales tax. The council also approved a revised contract for the city’s rental of a parking lot on Griffin Street just south of the square and will pay $1,500 per month beginning March 1 for four years, increasing to $1,650 per month after that.
