Construction is on schedule for a spring completion of the new Fire Station 9 in north Canton for Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services, the department reports.
“The new fire station should be turned over to us on April 1,” said Division Chief Dean Floyd. It will replace the old North Canton Volunteer Fire Department building nearby, built around 1973 and never intended to house full-time firefighters.
Being constructed on a 10.5-acre site on Reinhardt College Parkway, Station 9 will have 11,631 square feet, three bays and a kitchen, dining room and day room. It will be able to accommodate as many as 12 firefighters at a time. It will offer safer living conditions and allow a faster response to calls, officials said.
The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners awarded a $3.67 million construction contract for the station to BM&K Construction Inc. With a $150,000 contingency and $100,000 for furniture, fixtures and equipment, the county's total capital commitment for the facility is $3.92 million. Information: https://bit.ly/2TL5Ics
