A former North Gwinnett High School football standout turned Howard University defensive tackle is recovering after he says he was stabbed by a co-worker.
The suspect in that case is being held at Fulton County Jail without bond after the victim says some joking around on the job ended with his arm badly slashed.
Joseph Dillard told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik the stabbing happened as he and his co-workers joked with each other on a construction job at an Alpharetta Elementary School.
He says co-worker Jeremy Maignan's feelings were hurt.
"I told him 'It's not that serious dude'," Dillard said.
Police say Maignan took it seriously, and went outside to get a knife.
"He kind of walked up to my face like 'What you gonna do now?'" Dillard said. "I looked to his hand, kind of looked down, and saw he was wiggling a blade, a straight 8-inch blade."
According to an incident report, Maignan told police he thought Dillard was going to kill him and claimed the attack was in self-defense.
Dillard says he's glad something like this happened to him, and not someone smaller who would have had trouble defending themselves.
Maignan faces aggravated assault and battery charges.
