Low-income residents may apply for fed discounts

Through April 30, applications are being accepted from senior citizens, ages 65 and older, and homebound households for possible discounts on their summer electric bills if they reside in Cobb, Douglas, Bartow, Floyd, Gordon, Haralson, Paulding and Polk counties.

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. May 1, the general public also may apply for these federal funds offered through the Tallatoona Community Action Partnership (CAP).

Those who may apply one time per heating season and one time per cooling season include U.S. citizens, parents of minors who are U.S. citizens and immigrants admitted to the U.S. for lawful, permanent residence.

For those who qualify for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), discounts will be provided until about June 30 for their electric bill with the amount depending upon the availability of federal funds.

Due to health and safety concerns related to coronavirus/COVID-19, appointments for assistance will be completed only by telephone.

Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

An appointment for cooling assistance does not guarantee processing or payment.

Tallatoona CAP offices are closed until further notice.
