Cobb County has updated radio system communications that police and fire officers use during emergencies. The $13 million upgrade doubles the number of radio channels available to public safety workers and emergency medical service agencies.

With more than 900,000 calls a year through the Cobb 911 Center, the radio system was near capacity, said Cobb spokesman Robert Quigley. The county has designated $14 million in SPLOST 2016 funds for future updates to Cobb’s 74 weather sirens and police and fire radios.
