Skip Wells, 21, was one of five Marines killed Thursday in an attacked at the Navy Reserve Support Center in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Cobb County commissioners renamed a Marietta park Wednesday night after a fallen soldier who frequented the park with his family.

Bells Ferry Park will be renamed for Lance Cpl. Skip Wells, who was 21 when he and four other service members were gunned down by a Tennessee man inspired by terrorism in July 2015 at a military center.

The new name will be: "Marine Lance Corporal Squire 'Skip' Wells Park."

Wells went to Bells Ferry Elementary School before graduated from Sprayberry High School in 2012 where he was active in ROTC.

He went on to Georgia Southern University until fall 2013.

In 2014, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 2014 and quickly earned accolades for his dedication and service.

The Navy posthumously honored Wells with the Purple Heart.

"Wells's life provided inspiration to our community and his faithful dedication to serve our country exemplified the finest traditions of the Marine Corps.," according to the agenda item for the proposal.

There's also a bill working through U.S. Congress to rename a post office after Wells. It has passed the House of Representatives.
