Moments after he was involved in an accident, a Marietta man was struck and killed as he tried to cross I-75 in Cobb County, authorities said Thursday.

Joshua Stukes of Marietta rear-ended a vehicle as they were traveling on I-75 southbound near the South Marietta Parkway exit ramp, Marietta police spokesman Officer Jake Rakestraw said.

The vehicle Stukes rear-ended spun out and slammed into the center median wall of the interstate.

A witness pulled to the left shoulder following the collision, Rakestraw said. Minutes later, a responding officer arrived on scene and blocked the far left lane so that the witness’ vehicle wouldn’t be hit.

Stukes pulled over to the right shoulder, got out of his vehicle and began to walk toward the other vehicle involved in the accident. A 2001 Lexus LS430 driven by Lavictor Holland, 43, of Marietta, hit Stukes as he attempted to cross the interstate, Rakestraw said.

Stukes was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The Marietta Police is investigating the accident. Anyone with information is urged to call Officer Chris Henry at 770-794-5352.
