Russell Lee Hurn is charged with use of a computer to seduce, solicit, lure or entice child to commit an illegal act, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of a schedule II controlled substance, all of which are felonies.

A Marietta man was arrested last week after he allegedly arranged to meet a 14-year-old girl for a sexual encounter at an apartment complex.

Marietta police charged Russell Lee Hurn, 45, with use of a computer to seduce, solicit, lure or entice child to commit an illegal act, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and possession of a schedule II controlled substance, all of which are felonies.

According to an arrest warrant, an advertisement seeking a sexual encounter was posted online. An undercover detective posting as a 14-year-old girl responded to the ad, and began exchanging text messages with the phone number listed in the posting.

Photos were exchanged between the two, and a man who called himself “Russell” allegedly sent photos of his genitals on two occasions, authorities said in the warrant.

Police say the man wanted to meet the teenager, and a place and time was arranged. Hurn arrived at an apartment complex and sent a text to someone he thought was the girl, indicating that he’d arrived, the warrant states.

Two uniformed patrol officers took Hurn into custody. According to the warrant, Hurn had condoms, a flask of vodka and a container of multiple pills. The pills were identified as acetaminophen and hydrocodone bitartrate, a generic form of Vicodin, and alprazolam, otherwise known as Xanax.

“Said accused initially lied about why he was at the apartments, but later admitted he was meeting a girl he had been messaging,” the warrant adds.

Hurn, of Marietta, was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on Dec. 16 and released the following day on a $38,720 bond.
