A man wanted in Florida on a murder charge was arrested early Monday morning after a standoff with Clayton County police.

Police arrested Charles Warren Johnson in the apartment of a woman he had recently met.

The incident began about 5:30 a.m. when police got a call about a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Cormac Drive in Riverdale.

Johnson was gone from the scene when officers arrived, but the man's brother told authorities he had fought with him, and that police could find him at the Marquis Cove Apartments in the 5700 block of Riverdale Road in unincorporated Clayton County.

Officers went to the apartment complex, intending to arrest Johnson on a battery charge, police said. But the man allegedly refused to leave the unit in which he was barricaded. .

Besides the woman, there were four children in the apartment at the time, ages 2, 6, 10 and 14 years old, police said.

The man's female friend told Channel 2 Action News that she didn't feel threatened, but the situation escalated when officers arrived.

When police learned the man was wanted for first-degree murder in Miami-Dade County, Fla., the Clayton County Police SWAT Team was activated and responded to the scene.

Around 8 a.m., negotiators talked Johnson into leaving the apartment. He walked out with the children, Channel 2 reported. No one was harmed.

Clayton authorities charged Johnson with five counts of false imprisonment, obstruction and battery.
