The city of Kennesaw will host its annual event allowing residents to discover new reads as well as reconnect with old favorites.

The city’s annual book swap will be held 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Ben Robertson Community Center at 2753 Watts Drive. The event, organized by the city’s Parks & Recreation Department, is free.

Participants can drop off gently used hardcover or paperback books, as well as audio CDs, DVDs movies and vinyl records from noon to 8 p. m. Jan. 9-10. They will receive a ticket that can be redeemed for the same number of items during the open swap time on Jan. 11.

Each book must have its front and back covers intact and be in good condition. CDs, DVDs and vinyls are required to be fully operational and in their original cases. Organizers will not accept magazines, VHS or cassette tapes, adult content and unauthorized or illegal material.

The city said volunteers are needed to help organizers with receiving, sorting and bagging items. Volunteers should be able to lift 20 pounds, and have the ability to bend and stoop.

You can visit the city's website to sign up for a shift. Once there, click on Online Activity Registration and then click on the Special Events tab. The book swap event will be under volunteer opportunities.
