A Cherokee County moratorium on accepting building-related applications on property zoned for agriculture has been extended 90 days, until Feb. 5. The Board of Commissioners approved the extension after holding a public hearing on the issue Nov. 7.
The moratorium, which follows a 30-day freeze adopted in October, affects the acceptance of applications or plans for issuing land disturbance, building or tenant occupancy permits on AG-zoned property. It does not apply to single-family homes, accessory buildings, places of worship, schools or telecommunication towers.
The action allows the county time to study uses on AG-zoned land that may be appropriate for special-use permits, and so designating them in a table of permitted uses under the county zoning ordinance, officials said.
