The Cherokee County School District is expanding its to-go student meal program by adding two more Mondays, to spring break, and two more distribution sites.

While schools are closed because of the COVID-19 outbreak, Cherokee County schools are providing to-go bags with a week’s worth of breakfast and lunches to students in need. The first distribution Monday, March 16, at 10 schools and four off-campus locations provided meals to 2,300 students at a cost of $26.25 each, or more than $60,000 total.

A second distribution is set for Monday, March 23. Additional distributions have been announced for March 30 and April 6, and at two more sites, Creekview High School and River Ridge High School. For a full schedule of stations and pick-up times: http://bit.ly/CCSDserves

The district hopes to be reimbursed some of its costs by the USDA. To cover the gap, it welcomes individual giving. Donations can be made by check (forms at: http://bit.ly/CCSDdonate) or by credit card (http://bit.ly/CCSDgiveonline). Information: https://bit.ly/3b6OBqW

“We are committed to making sure our students do not experience hunger, and we know our community will join us in this effort,” said schools Superintendent Brian V. Hightower.
