The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has approved increasing the amount of land purchased for a new fire station site in the unincorporated county east of Ball Ground.

In February, commissioners authorized buying 2.05 acres on the southwest corner of Yellow Creek and Conns Creek roads.

However, subsequent due diligence by the county determined additional property, either an easement or added land acquisition, would be required to satisfy drainage requirements after site improvements, County Manager Jerry Cooper told commissioners.

“We felt it appropriate that, rather than an easement, we go ahead and purchase the property so we don’t have issues in the future,” Cooper said. The land’s owner, Jeffrey Stancil, agreed to sell an additional 0.89 acres to the county, bringing the site total to 2.94 acres. The sales price is $224,116.
