Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services is getting six new fire engines this spring, so the county Board of Commissioners has approved donating two units they’re replacing to Lumpkin County.

The engines to be donated are two, 2000 model year American LaFrance fire trucks, according to a report to commissioners by Cherokee County Fire Chief Tim Prather.

Lumpkin County, with Dahlonega as its county seat, has “a limited budget for fire services and many challenges for water delivery in their area,” Prather said. “These trucks would greatly enhance their ability to improve fire suppression services in underserved areas.”

The engines could generate $5,000 to $10,000 if sold at auction as surplus, but Prather said his department "believes that the trucks would be of greater benefit and value to another department in need." Information: https://bit.ly/3aJDrsB
