An Atlanta man was arrested Sunday night after he allegedly left his kids in a running car -- and somebody stole the vehicle.
Charles Boyd entered a convenient store on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard while his 5-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son sat in the car, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Tabitha Robinson, who was at the store, said Boyd was hysterical when he realized the car was gone. “He told the police that his kids was in the car and someone had jumped in his car and pulled off,” Robinson told Channel 2.
Police located the vehicle two hours later just several blocks away. The children, who were unharmed, had left the car and sought help from residents in the northwest Atlanta neighborhood.
“They kept crying, saying they wanted to go home,” said Willie Delia Monroe, who called police about the incident.
In court, Boyd said he felt comfortable leaving the children in the car because a security guard was in the parking lot.
Boyd was charged with reckless conduct and possession of marijuana after police found drugs in the car. However, a judge said it was reasonable to assume the marijuana belonged to the thief and dropped the drug charge.
