A new assistant city manager position has been created in Canton, and Nathan Ingram, most recently the city’s chief financial officer, has been named to fill it.

Ingram will oversee finance, human resources, technology and municipal court operations, and special projects, according to a city Facebook announcement. A CPA and graduate of North Georgia College, Ingram has served as the city's financial chief for the last eight years.

The city also announced the promotion of Melissa Forrester from accounting services manager to finance director; and of police Capt. Wendell Turner to deputy chief following the promotion of Deputy Chief Stephen Merrifield to chief of the Canton Police Department in January.

Forrester joined Canton 11 years ago and also served as accountant and budget analyst. Turner was hired four years ago as captain over the support services bureau. He came to the city from Statesboro, where he was director of public safety managing police, fire and 911 operations.
