UPDATE: The restaurant was re-inspected Jan. 10 and received a 98/A. The report noted five new violations, including an observation of "heavy dust buildup on fan" in the food prep area.

ORIGINAL STORY (published Jan. 4): A well-frequented Midtown restaurant failed a recent health inspection, with officials noting "failure to discard of thawed hamburger patties" by the seventh day.

Hobnob Neighborhood Tavern, located at 1551 Piedmont Ave. NE, scored a 67/U following the Tuesday evaluation.

Hobnob is operated by Communitas Hospitality. The company also owns nearby 10th & Piedmont and G's Midtown.

According to the recent report from Hobnob, there was "mold in the ice machine on the white flap."

Officials also reported heavy food debris on a can opener holster and various raw meats stored over salmon, pretzels and cut apples.

General manager Mark Nelson said the restaurant is taking it very seriously, with an “extra team of people” helping to correct what he called “pretty easy fixes.”

“We’re obviously very disappointed with the results of the investigation, but are taking it completely to heart. Immediately upon the inspector leaving we put together a punch list and are attacking those items line by line,” Nelson said. “It’s extremely important to us that we’re a great establishment.”

The facility has 10 days to correct all violations and schedule an intervention, according to the report.

Nelson said they’re looking forward to a quick re-inspection.
