Although the Braves say its 14,000 parking spots  around the soon-to-open SunTrust Park are enough, more parking never hurts.

And as of Monday, five nearby businesses have been approved to offer up their total 1,050 spots.

As long as the application is properly filled out, the process is mostly automatic, said Dana Johnson, director of community development for Cobb. Businesses must renew annually.

Here’s the entities that have been OKed by the county:

  • Boy Scouts of America, Atlanta Area Council at 1800 Circle 75 Parkway SE (192 spots, with half going to credentialed media)
  • Olymbec USA, the company that owns The Atrium office building at 2400 Herodian Way (541 spots)
  • Days Inn at 4502 Circle 75 Parkway (30 spots)
  • Akers Mill Square at 2967 Cobb Parkway at the rear of the shopping center (142 spots)

The City of Smyrna has also approved a business to offer parking. It gave its blessing for the Holiday Inn at 2875 Spring Hill Parkway to sell off 145 spots for $30, according to its application.

Tracy Techau is the CEO of the Boy Scouts’ Atlanta Area Council, which has its office in the shadow of the ballpark maybe a couple hundred feet away.

Half of the Boy Scouts’ 192 spaces will be for the public and half will be for credentialed reporters heading to Braves games.

He said the Braves had been looking for a close lot for members of the media.

Techau said the organization is in the final stage of picking a parking vendor, which will set the price. He did say folks will have the option of pre-paying for a spot.

As for how much: “It’ll be expensive parking ... It’ll be higher than what the market price is.”

He said that price would fluctuate depending on demand, but he expects it to be full most games.

Techau said the Scouts moved into the office 15 years ago when a new Braves stadium wasn’t even a twinkle in Cobb’s eye.

“We knew the area would grow up in time, but we have no idea that the SunTrust Park would be growing up next,” he said.
