Brookwood High School has dominated the Science Olympiad State Tournament for years now, but its latest performance was the best so far.

So good, in fact, that they got to pay off a long-standing bet -- and shave their coach's head.

“It was definitely an interesting experience having 15 brilliant teenagers with zero skill as hair stylists shave my head," that coach, Joe Cox, said in a news release from Gwinnett County Public Schools. "They ended up doing a great job given what they had to work with, but then again I expected no less."

Brookwood's science olympiad team has now claimed state titles each of the last six years. In this year's competition, they took gold medals in six events -- more than a quarter of the 23 total events. They took a total of 18 medals home to Snellville. Each team member earned at least one medal. (SEE THE TEAM'S FULL RESULTS BELOW)

The team will now be one of two Georgia squads to compete at the National Science Olympiad in May.

“I've had the privilege of coaching some great students, but this year’s group is extra special," Cox said. "Their performance at the state tournament was the best ever recorded at Brookwood. The ability to keep winning year after year speaks to the dedication of our students and Science Olympiad coaches, but it also speaks to the overall quality and rigor of our STEM program.”
