Brookhaven’s city manager, who recently interviewed nine finalists for its first police chief job, expects to announce a choice for the post by mid-April.

Nearly 100 people applied for the job, who will responsible for setting up the first police department in the new city. Together with manger Marie Garrett, the chief will also decide how many officers the city will need and how to structure the department.

Brookhaven, which began operations in December, hopes to have a police force on the streets later this year.
