The Brookhaven City Council approved construction of a bicycle, pedestrian and trail plan during its regular meeting last week. The council approved the plan to encourage more eco-friendly travel within the city, on the following conditions:

  • That the city provide bike parking on city property;
  • That the path follows accepted national standards on constructing bike paths;
  • That a community-based compliance watch group is formed
  • The city must work with the Department of Transportation to develop sound regulatory policy.

Council also approved the city’s employee travel policy and adopted a construction hours sign policy, requiring that signs with the dates and hours that construction takes place be conspicuously displayed the to public.
