Berkeley Lake will include Brunch Bill question on ballot

Berkeley Lake will ask residents to consider allowing alcoholic beverages by the drink to be sold beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Known as the Sunday Brunch Bill, voters will decide whether or not to allow restaurants to offer alcoholic beverages by the drink earlier on Sunday. Currently restaurants within Berkeley Lake city limits may begin selling beer, wine and distilled spirits by the drink at 12:30 p.m. until midnight on Sunday.
The city has also announced qualifying dates to run for the office of mayor, currently held by Lois Salter, and two council seats, held by Rebecca Spitler and Bob Smith. Persons interested in running for election may complete forms 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 19, or 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 20-22 at City Hall, 4040 S. Berkeley Lake Road. The qualifying fee to run for mayor is $150 and is $27 for council member.
Volunteers poll officials are needed for Election Day to help people through the voting process and to count votes after the polls close. Information about running for office or volunteering: Pat Chapman at 770-368-9484 or deputy.admin@berkeleylake.com.
