Austin new Hampton police chief

Derrick Austin has been named the new police chief in Hampton. He was appointed at the April 14 City Council meeting. Austin is a 22-year veteran of law enforcement, all in Henry County, and graduated from Henry County High School. He joined the Hampton PD in 1999 and was most recently the uniform patrol commander with the rank of captain. Porter spent a total of 19 with the department before his retirement.
