The Austell City Council voted recently to increase monthly recycling fees for residents, beginning Jan. 1 and continuing through the end of the year.

The 55-cent increase will be $3.69 monthly instead of $3.14 per home.

This monthly recycling rate was an increase by five cents from $3.09 to $3.14 which took effect on Jan. 1 and runs through Dec. 31 of this year.

Councilwoman Kirsten Anderson, chairperson of the Public Works Department, said Republic Services provides the recycling service.

She said the increase is needed due to the current consumer price index and third-party vendors.
