Austell to make fire, police purchases

Austell city officials are buying three police vehicles and, for the fire department, bunker gear.

During an online Zoom meeting, those decisions were made by 5-0 votes on May 4 by the Austell City Council with Councilwoman Sandra Leverette absent.

For the police vehicles, the cost is around $110,373 for three 2020 Ford Explorers at about $36,791 each, according to City Clerk Elizabeth Young in an email to the AJC.

Casey Jackson Ford in Royston in Northeast Georgia will be the supplier.

For the fire department, $63,944 will be paid for bunker gear for firefighters to wear as their uniform.

The money is coming from the 2018 sale by the city of a reserve fire engine, Young added.
