Security, streetscapes, a stage and an annexation were topics approved 6-0 during the April 2 meeting of the Austell City Council.

Council will pay $6,400 to Gulf State Distributors to install two walk-through metal detectors - one for the Council Chambers and one for the Austell Gas System. However, the Austell Gas System will pay $3,200 for its metal detector.

Phase II of the city’s streetscape construction will be paid up to 80 percent by the federal government for $600,000 and $150,000 by city contribution.

A portable stage of 20 by 16 feet will be bought for almost $9,026 from Staging Dimensions.

Council annexed 2.6 acres from Douglas County into the city behind Wallace BBQ. The property on Spring Street will be used by Trina Johnson for a day care and preschool.
