Rain is expected to move into metro Atlanta over the next couple of days, but the weekend shouldn’t be a total washout.

The rain is “going to be very spotty on Saturday,” with better coverage of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist David Chandley said.

Chandley said the greatest chance of showers and thunderstorms will be Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening, with the rain lingering into Monday.

The rainfall could be heavy at times, Chandley said.

He put the chance of rain at 20 percent Saturday, 70 percent Sunday and 40 percent Monday.

Weekend highs will be in the mid-80s, with lows in the 60s.

After being postponed last weekend for the Memorial Day travel period, interstate road construction will be back in full swing in several areas, weather permitting.

On the top-end Perimeter, two lanes of I-285 in each direction will be shut down between Paces Ferry and Powers Ferry roads, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday. East of there, two lanes of I-285 in each direction will be blocked between Riverside Drive and Chamblee Dunwoody Road during the same hours.

In that same general area, the ramp from I-285 eastbound to Ga. 400 southbound will be blocked from 9 p.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday.

In DeKalb County, paving work could cause delays around the junction of I-285 and I-20 and on the ramp from I-20 eastbound to Wesley Chapel Road.

A Braves series with the Nationals at Turner Field highlights the weekend events. Doug Turnbull in the AM750 and 95.5FM News/Talk WSB Traffic Center said to expect extra traffic in the area of the ballpark before and after the Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon games.
