Rain will welcome metro Atlanta residents back to work on Tuesday.

Sunshine pushed through the clouds at times Monday afternoon and temperatures rose to the mid-50s. The rain, along with warmer temperatures, will arrive Tuesday, said Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton.

"There is a weak upper-air disturbance producing the clouds today and an occasional sprinkle," Minton said. "Tomorrow a front will push much warmer air into place with a few light sprinkles in the morning between 6 and 9 a.m. The main rain with the cold front pushes through during the evening rush around 6 p.m. and finally moves out before the morning rush on Wednesday."

She said rainfall amounts will total about three-quarters inch. Severe weather is not expected, "although a rumble of thunder is possible," Minton said.

Temperatures on Tuesday will be warmer with a low in the mid-40s in the morning, climbing to the mid-60s in the afternoon.

Wednesday will be sunny and windy, with lows in the 30s and highs in the upper 40s to low 50s.

The extended forecast for the weekend calls for much warmer-than-normal temperatures with highs in the upper 60s, Minton said.
