Fulton County Schools will close at noon Friday as 79 counties are expected to enter a state of emergency because of a snow storm heading for metro Atlanta.

The area might see up to 4 inches of snow, forecasters say.

The school system announced the news on Facebook just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Friday was already a planning day for teachers, but now the administrative offices will close at noon. Students are set to return Monday.

The school system also cancelled all extra-curricular and athletic events Friday through the weekend.

A winter storm warning will go into effect for north Georgia Friday as a winter storm is expected to bring up to 4 inches of snow this weekend.
