At its June 4 board meeting held via teleconference, the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority Board of Directors was provided an update on the ATL Regional Transit Plan/Call for Projects Timeline, according to a press release.

The first step is to request existing project sponsors to update the project information submitted last year, as well as to initiate a call for new projects. The call for projects window opened Monday, June 8 and closes Friday, July 10 for local governments, transit operators, CID’s, and other project sponsors. The call for projects announcement can be viewed at https://atltransit.ga.gov/regional-planning/.

The 2020 ARTP Update will utilize a refined project prioritization process – the Project Performance Framework. The framework builds off three evaluation methodologies employed last year and introduces two new filters (regional significance + project readiness). The framework will enable the ATL to establish a prioritized program of transit projects that can be included in the region’s federally required transportation planning documents, as well as a recommended list of projects for the State to consider for potential funding in future bond packages.

“The refined project prioritization process is a more streamlined approach and will enable the ATL to develop funding and support strategies with our partners to successfully implement the projects. With these uncertain times and the economic effect of the pandemic it will be interesting to see and understand the impact on the region’s transit plans. What is clear is that the need for and reliance upon transit has remained and so further investments in our transit infrastructure are still very much necessary,” said Chris Tomlinson, ATL Executive Director.

The ATL Board also received a briefing on the 2020 Annual Report and Audit process. This second edition of the report will measure financial, operational, and customer service performance, as well as assess how transit operations in metro Atlanta have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

In addition, the Board took the next step in its strategic planning process, by receiving information on how the ATL’s ongoing work aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and goals.

The next meeting of the Atlanta-Region Transit Link Authority Board of Directors is scheduled for Aug. 6.
