Atlanta Police Department’s K-9 units recently received a donation of five bullet- and stab-protective vests from PetArmor, a flea and tick brand of Perrigo Animal Health. In most cases, law enforcement agencies do not have the budget to purchase K-9 protective vests because they cost as much as $950. As a result, police dogs are left unprotected while fighting crime.
Through the non profit Vested Interest in K9s Inc., PetArmor is dedicated to protecting K-9s across the nation. The partnership has provided 50 vests to law enforcement dogs in Florida, Texas, Maryland, Florida, Nevada, Michigan and Tennessee since 2013 and plans to donate another 25 by the end of this year to departments in Georgia, Florida and Missouri.
The five teams in the Atlanta Police Department that received the donation:
— Officer Ronald Walker and K9 Diesel
— Officer Maurie Phelps and K9 Lex
— Officer Brittney Fisher and K9 Ruckus
— Officer Robert Godwin and K9 Arass
— Officer Runako Stephens and K9 Jet
