The Atlanta Board of Education has begun the search for its next superintendent to succeed Interim Superintendent Erroll Davis.

The board appointed a 13-member advisory team to identify candidates, establish a timeline, gather community input and introduce candidates. The committee includes representatives from the mayor’s office, parent organizations, teacher groups and a student.

Davis, 68, was appointed superintendent of the Atlanta district July 1, 2011, to replace then-Superintendent Beverly Hall.
