Atlanta Public Schools' fifth-grader Sydney Ragland won a citywide contest and will be among students competing regionally Feb. 26, with hopes to advance to state finals and win a chance to represent Georgia at the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Ragland attends West Manor Elementary School. She was up against students from 18 schools in the city contest, which was hosted by the Atlanta Association of Educators. The state bee, set for March 18, is sponsored by the Georgia Association of Educators.
