Two suspects have been arrested for the 2010 fatal shooting of a taxi driver outside a Marietta apartment complex, Cobb County police announced Tuesday.
Investigators secured warrants for Javin Rhashad Andrews, 17, of Marietta and James Levone Mitchell, 20, of Columbia, S.C., after receiving new information on the case late last month, police said. Both suspects are charged with aggravated assault and homicide.
Ricardo Peter Francois, 23, of Powder Springs was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head inside his taxi in the 3500 block of Windcliff Drive on Nov. 21, 2010.
A man alerted police around 2:45 a.m. after he noticed that a Rayo Taxi service van had remained parked, with the engine running, for some time in front of the 1000 building of the Lincoln Hills Apartment Complex.
He checked on the driver, who was not moving, and discovered the man was dead, investigators said.
Mitchell was arrested without incident Monday afternoon by U.S. Marshals and sheriff’s deputies in Columbia, S.C. He is awaiting an extradition hearing, Cobb police said.
Andrews already was in custody at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on other charges when the warrant for him was obtained, police said. According to the Cobb County Sheriff's office website, Andrews was charged with multiple counts of burglary and credit card theft in January.
