The Atlanta Regional Commission will assist Alpharetta in developing guidelines for creating public spaces and installing public art in the North Point Retail District, city officials announced.

The project continues the North Point Livable Centers Initiative, a six-month project that began last September and involved residents, property owners and a planning consultant. The study looked at the area centered on the 25-year-old North Point Mall shopping center.

The North Point project was one of 13 selected for ARC’s new Community Development Assistance Program. The initiative involves ARC staff and groups such as the Urban Land Institute, Georgia Power and Georgia Tech working in partnership with local communities.

“The assistance we will be getting from the ARC brings to bear resources that would typically cost local taxpayers thousands of dollars that can now be allocated to other needs,” said Kathi Cook, Alpharetta’s director of community development.
