Anyone looking to legally sell privately-owned guns may do so at events being held in Fulton County on Saturday.

One will take place at the South Fulton City Hall, 5440 Fulton Industrial Blvd SW, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event’s goal is to reduce the number of civilian-owned guns while allowing them to be sold to the government without risk of prosecution, a press release said.

Sellers will be eligible to receive $50 gift cards for handguns and $100 gift cards for rifles and shotguns. Guns, which must be operable and unloaded, should be transported car trunks for safety, officials said.

“We hope that the event will not only encourage people to turn in illegal weapons, but also come to the table with other creative ideas on how we can combat crime,” Councilwoman Carmalitha Gumbs said in a statement. She partnered with the City of South Fulton Police Department and the South Fulton Lodge #598 to host the event.

The city of East Point will host a similar event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Point Police Precinct at Camp Creek Marketplace, 3645 Marketplace Blvd. People may turn in guns — no questions asked — for gift cards worth $100 for handguns and shotguns and $150 for assault weapons.

During the same time-frame, people may safely dispose of unused or expired medication at the East Point Police Department, 2727 East Point St.
