ORIGINAL STORY: An American Deli failed a recent health inspection, Fulton County records show.
The restaurant on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, near the H. E. Holmes MARTA station, scored a 57/U following the Nov. 1 evaluation. Scores below 70 are considered failing. Its prior score, from January, was an 88/B.
American Deli, which originally opened in South Dekalb Mall in 1989, is a large chain with locations in multiple states.

According to the recent report, there was a “black and pink substance buildup” in the ice machine.
Officials also reported heavy grease buildup on the floor and a hole in the kitchen’s ceiling.
A restaurant employee said by phone Friday that the owner was not immediately available for comment.
Follow-up inspections are generally completed within 10 days of the original evaluation.
