The Alpharetta City Council is updating its 1974 truck route ordinance, identifying 12 streets for trucks and prohibiting the vehicles from other streets except under certain circumstances.
The council approved a revised ordinance identifying as truck routes Ga. 9 (North and South Main Street), Ga. 120, Haynes Bridge Road (Ga. 120 to the city limits), Hembree Road (Westside Parkway to the Roswell city limits, then continuing as a Roswell truck route), Mansell Road, Maxwell Road (Ga. 9 to Hembree), McGinnis Ferry Road, North Point Parkway, Union Hill Road, Westside Parkway, Windward Concourse, and Windward Parkway (Ga. 9 to Union Hill).
Trucks may not use any other streets except when going to a terminal, parking lot, repair garage, headquarters or place of pickup or delivery; if so, a truck must take the most direct route available. The ordinance defines a truck as a motor vehicle with a gross vehicular weight rating in excess of 36,000 pounds, or having an overall length exceeding 30 feet, except vehicles designed to carry passengers.
