Alpharetta is amending local law governing bed and breakfast operations to regulate the number of guest rooms rather than the number of guests.

Ordinances currently limit bed and breakfasts in Alpharetta to no more than 15 guests. Under text amendments to the Unified Development Code accepted on first reading by the City Council, B&Bs instead would be limited to no more than seven guest rooms and one owner’s suite, and an average guest stay of less than seven days.

“It is more appropriate and easier to regulate the number of guest rooms,” staff said in a report to the council. “In addition, the city’s parking regulations are based on the number of guest rooms, not the number of guests.”
